Well, I was about to write a news item on the advantages of visiting the Lakes during the Autumn, but it seems the Daily Telegraph has beaten me to it with yesterday’s article – 10 Reasons Why Autumn is the Best Time to Visit the Lake District.  You can view it here.

I think I would have started with the beautiful colours, but can’t really argue with any of their piece, including the new hotel – we all want to go and have a peek! It is certainly quieter, with fewer visitors and a more leisurely pace on the roads and on the fells and you can definately take full advantage of the walking and the local hostelries.

There is still plenty going on in and around  Keswick at this time of year, from taking a Nordic walking experience at Whinlatter, to Italian cooking  or smoking and curing classes at the local Cookery School, to a haunting experience on a Keswick ghost walk.  The Theatre By The Lake continues its successful summer season until the end of October and also has some other interesting events including a visit by the Ocean Film Festival on October 1st and an evening with climber, Doug Scott on the 15th.
